Humans may be physically weaker than some other species, but that does not make them unable to survive. They thrive in numbers, and their cunning has given them a great advantage over the other races.

Aging

Compared to many species in Antarsia, humans are a rather short-lived species; however, despite their smaller lifespans, humans are able to achieve much during the course of their lives, and are one of the most efficient species that can be seen in Antarsia. Their age ranges are as follows:

0 to 15: child
15 to 30: Adolescent
30 to 40: Young Adult
40 to 125: Adult
125 to 200: Elder

Average Lifespan: 200 years

Diet

Humans are omnivorous and very adaptable. They can eat anything from meat to plants to seafood, and occasionally will even eat insects. Unlike the kitsune they interact with, however, humans must cook their food before consuming, for they risk sickness if they eat raw food, and many humans have died from the disease they now call "food poisoning."

Appearance

Humans come in a wide array of appearances. Their builds and body shapes will differ from person to person, with some being as tall as the elves, and some being slightly taller than dwarves. Their skin color come in all shades, from fairest ivory to rich dark browns, and their hair and eye colors can be just as varied.

Abilities

Humans are cunning and intelligent. They’re incredibly adaptable, and can adjust to any situation or environment. With diligence and training, humans are capable of amazing feats of strength and dexterity. Some can lift a horse, others are capable of leaping from building to building, and others still can break stone with their fists. The true strength of humans comes from their ability to work in groups. Together they can do what many cannot, and humans have shaped the and around them to serve their needs. Highly curious and inventive, humans can create and invent all manner of devices to make their lives easier.

Magical

Humans are able to learn magic, though some are more naturally gifted with this than others. Many specialize in the use of fire magic, given their patron god is Jackroth, but humans are capable of learning all manner of magics. Many choose to specialize in one or two elements, to fully master it. Humans have taken on the use of elemental stones and pearls to augment their power, putting them on par with other species.

History

The first humans are said to have risen from the smoldering embers of a forest fire, started in the forest of eastern Sleibte by Jakroth himself. These humans were weak, far weaker than the other creatures that roamed the world of Antarsia, and they quickly learned to stay together, for there was great strength in numbers.

Faster than any of the other races had, the humans began to live in harmony, working as one to first build towns, then cities, and soon enough, an entire kingdom was born. From here, the humans began to expand outward, traveling west from the forest they had originated from, all the way to the Nkazon Desert.

Even as the humans expanded, the ones that remained behind came into contact with strange, multi-tailed foxes dubbed the kitsune. These foxes displayed their aptitude for magic, and used their powers to trick humans, and from there humans began to form a deep seated distrust and hatred for all things magic, for they themselves could not use it, and they did not understand how it worked.

At the western end of their expansion, the humans encountered a strange, four-legged, winged reptilian creature that called itself a dragon. It posed an enormous threat to the humans, for it was large and powerful, with magic the humans had no hope of matching; however, the humans had something that the dragons did not, and that was teamwork.

United, the humans drove the dragons back, hunting them down for their threat to humankind as well as for their usage of magic and their beautiful, scaled hides, until the number of dragons dwindled and the creatures were forced to adapt and change to survive.

Struck by their resilience despite their lack of power, a goddess by the name of Jiasna intervened, giving the humans a taste of magic. Selectively, Jiasna gave the ability to use minor magic to the royals, as well as a very few other members of the species. Instead of helping the humans, this created a civil war, with the magic-users on one side and the non-magic users on the other side.

From then on, the human kingdom split to two, one ruled by the original Royals, while the other was ruled by a new line of rulers that had risen during the war. Even today they remain this way, and though the relationship of the two kingdoms has mended enough to allow for communication and trade, the hostilities between the members of the kingdoms remain.
