Appearance

Fairies are small humanoid creatures that are about the size of three stacked apples at best. Male fairies appear more dull in color, aside from their skin which ranges from brown to peach or even shades like burgundy, green, and navy blue, though their skin tends to lean more towards the darker side. Females appear more vibrant in their colors. Like the males, their skin ranges from brown to peach, though colors like pinks, yellows, and greens are also common. Unlike male fairies, female fairies have a diamond shape seal on their forehead that is given to them at birth by guardian fairies. The seal stores their magical energy for safe keeping.

Fairies have a symbol appearing somewhere on their body that corresponds with their personality traits. For example, a fairy with a heart symbol would likely be kind, caring, and peaceful. These symbols come in all manner of colors, though they generally correspond with the individual’s general color scheme.

All fairies posses a pair of beautiful flowering wings on their backs that shimmer and sparkle when they fly. Occasionally their wings will emit a magical essence, powered by their life force. Guardian fairies are born with a pair of double helix wings, and the glow they emit is bright and vivid. Each fairy also possesses a secondary form: a small magical orb in the color of the fairy’s respective element. The orb is capable of speech, though some are far less talkative while in this form.

Guardians are female only. While many possess the title of Guardian, few have all of their abilities. Each Guardian fairy has a set of double helix wings that flicker with sparkling auras based on their element. They appear similar to an average female fairy, aside from their obvious increase in power. Many females are destined to become a guardian once they become of age, but they are given a choice in what they’d like to become, be it a farmer or a warrior. If a guardian gives birth to a boy, there is a chance that he will inherit some of his mother’s traits such as the double helix wings, but these are few and far between. If you are interested in making a guardian, ask staff.

Abilities

Physically, fairies aren't as impressive when it comes to hand to hand combat, but when it comes to magic they’re in a class all their own. While all fairies are capable of using weapons, it’s rare to see a female as a warrior. Most females, and some males, are more skilled in the use of elemental magics. They tend to specialize in one element, like fire, air, wind, earth, and lightning, to name a few. Using their selected element, they perform astounding offensive and defensive feats.

All fairies are able to fly, thanks to their beautiful wings. Furthermore, all fairies are able to shapeshift freely between their two forms.

Culture

Fairies live in an unencumbered life. Deep in the southern part of the Linosea forest they take shelter in a small village, and in the center is their Giving Tree. The Giving Tree is the source of their extensive life, and is protected at all cost. Most of the non-combative fairies are simple farmers that live to tend to their families. Every year the fairies thank the goddesses, Nialle and Malina, for their lives, and celebrate with a grand festival.

History

The Two Goddess, one of magic and the other of the forest, created something so pure yet delicate. A creature of energy giving life to those who are of need of it: fairies. They are beloved beings that are a light in darkness. They were created by the goddesses Nialle and Mallina years ago, giving them the capabilities they have today. Fond of their creations, they created a way for the fairies to live longer lives, and presented the fairies with a gift. A tree born of Mallina’s power, and radiating with Nialle’s magic, which the fairies have come to call the Giving Tree.

The first fairy created was given the title of Queen. She saw the decline in the fairy population due to many fairies falling victim to the larger species that roamed the world. The Queen sought to create a plan to increase numbers; thus the Guardians were created. They became known as the protectorates and serve the fairy village with honor. The Guardians were supplied with the powers their queen gave to them in order to defend their village well. Upon her death, the Queen’s magical energy flowed into the Guardians, changing their wings into great helix shapes.

As generations continued, the fairies existence grew more and more. The guardians had decided to keep them hidden from the outside world due to how fragile they are as the growing evil entities spreading throughout Antarsia posed an even greater threat. Of the guardians, the strongest became the next Queen, and decreed that no fairy shall ever leave the village.

To this day fairies reside in their village, while guardians patrol to keep the villagers safe. From time to time, tasks are given to check the outside world. It is an exclusive task, meant solely for a lone guardian. Still, some adventurous fairies have managed to leave the village to start their own villages in other forests.
