Angel

Rumored to have been born from the rays of the sun itself, Angels are the patrons of all things light, working together to stop the darkness from infiltrating the world.

Aging

Angels are immortal, and thus do not have a concept of "elders." The main causes of their deaths are due to the ongoing war against the demons. However, angels still do have a concept of youth through adulthood, and it is as follows:

0 to 15: Child
15 to 30: Adolescent/Young Adult
30+: Adult

Average Lifespan: Immortal, though many die from battle, and some perish even before they are fully adults.

Diet

An angel's diet mostly consists of meat and seafood. Most angels prefer their food well cooked, though rare or raw meats are edible to them. In addition, many of them can and do eat plants. Preference of meat or plant is thought to be linked to an angel's true form, though this has not been proven.

Appearance

In their normal, daily forms, angels are indistinguishable from each other by house; they present a humanoid form, but their characteristics vary wildly by individual as would any member of a species. In general, they favor light colors, from hair to eyes to clothing choices. They can sport horns, multicolored eyes, and various other features that set their common forms apart from others; it is the angel's true form that really gives away where they belong.

As mentioned previously, all angels possess an inherent true form; this form is something that they cannot change, and it is the true measure of their full power. This form's appearance varies between the different houses, though it is representative of each house's nature. The true forms of the weakest angels only hint at what house they belong to, while the strongest angels' true forms are very close to the true nature of their house. Most angelic true forms resemble beasts in some way. The appearance of each house's true form is as follows:

Light: Angels of Light resemble beasts made from light. The power of an angel is represented by how brightly the light glows. There are no limits as to what beast they could be.

Life: All angels of Life have true forms that resemble the beasts born of true magic. Weaker angels have forms resembling weaker creatures, such as will o wisps or archons, while stronger angels have forms like elementals or sylvians.

Liberty: All angels of Liberty have true forms resembling birds. Birds of prey signify more powerful angels, with the strongest resembling mystical birds such as Phoenixes or Rocs.

Plenty: All angels of Plenty resemble predators, from wolves to lions to tigers to bears. Size in comparison to a natural version of their form is the demonstration of power, though none can get beyond two to three times their natural size.

Faith: Faith angels differ from the other houses in that they have no true form. Instead, they possess a heavenly aura about them. The stronger the angel, the brighter the glow of aura appears as well as the purity about them. They can dim their aura to some extent, but Faith angels always seem to shimmer in the light.

Love: The true form of Love angels are very small. The weakest of them take the form of small songbirds, and the strongest take the form of doves.

On Royals: Royal angels have unique forms that are impossible for any other angel, each one resembling one of the gods, though often with a different coloration. Light Royals resemble Haliea, Goddess of the Sun, in her alternate form. Life Royals resemble Tharamos, God of Reality and Illusion. Plenty Royals resemble Cysnial, Goddess of Charity. Liberty royals resemble Eleinia, Goddess of Dreams and Obsession. Faith royals resemble Norak, God of Peace and Death. Love royals resemble Lithrina, Goddess of Love and War.

Abilities

Angels have always been as powerful as the demons, placing them as one of the more powerful races. Descended from the same ancestor, created by the same gods, demons and angels are two equal forces that may never triumph over each other. While demons have become twisted, angels hold true to the light, and have been rewarded for their devotion with many gifts.

Angels have true forms, and it is in this form that they are the most powerful, both in strength and magic. Though in these true forms all angels possess power far greater than in their everyday forms, the status of the angel itself determines the total power that its true form possesses. Stronger angels display equally stronger true forms, up to the royal angels, whose true forms' powers are great enough to destroy lesser beings simply by the sheer amount of energy they radiate. Due to the danger of their abilities, angels are unable to access their true forms unless they are in very dire need. Should they use it, the angel itself can be damaged by the strain forced on their body by such a form, and thus the true forms are rarely seen. However, some angels train themselves to be able to call upon a weaker variant of their true form at will, with this version being no more powerful than they are normally.

The normal form of an angel, though it varies in appearance by house, is the most commonly seen. Though in this form an angel does not possess its full power, it is still not a force to be taken lightly, as a more powerful angel can still deal devastating damage. Angels are unlimited to all forms of magic but one; the stronger angels are able to control more than one thing, and the number of magical skills that the angel is capable of mastering is determined by the angel's rank and strength.

Similar to demons, angels' abilities vary by house. Light angels are the best mages and healers, able to use and bend light magic to their will. Life angels are the strongest warriors, hardy and powerful in battle. Liberty angels are the creative minds, bringing new methods, tactics, and inventions to light. Plenty angels vary within its own house, with the angels that possess bulkier true forms, such as a bear, showing a great degree of magic resistance, while the smaller true-formed angels, such as wolves and lions, possessing speed to match the fastest Famine demons. Faith angels are gifted empaths. They can sense others emotions and manipulate them to some degree. Love angels are very fond of matchmaking. They’re able to inspire love in those around them.

The one form of magic that the angels cannot use is darkness magic. The true reason behind this is unknown, though it is thought to be due to the natural clash of darkness and light, which every angel can use as easily as breathing. Not only this, but angels are affected by darkness magic the most strongly, so that it can inflict severe damage when used against them. In this, angels oppose their fallen brethren, for demons are affected in the same way by the light magic that angels tend to favor.

History

Angels are believed to have been formed from the rays of light given off by Haliea as the parts of Jaelenai and Akros settled in the heavens. The first angels were granted great abilities with light, and they honored light of the sun as one, worshipping the goddess that gave them form and being. The angels were gifted, able to see the darkness in other beings, and tasked themselves with ridding their lands of evil.

Though the angels lived in harmony, as years passed, it became clear to them that certain angels had different values and means of reaching their goals. From this division arose four houses: Life, Light, Liberty, and Plenty.

These houses were led by the angels most devoted to their cause, and for their dedication Haliea granted their families strength above the other angels, as well as differentiated, specialized true forms, which resembled the gods that each of the houses stood for. The Light royals received forms resembling Haliea herself, the Life royals the form of Tharamos, the Liberty royals the form of Eleinia, and the Plenty royals forms resembling Cysnial.

These houses strove for different means to achieve their ultimate goal: the removal of the dark forces in their lands; however, instead of working against each other, these houses continued to work in harmony, understanding the benefit that the combination of different ideas and methods brought to their goals as a whole.

It was a surprise, and a devastating blow to the angels, when dissenters made their presence known, and began the silent rebellion that would change everything. A member of each royal family turned against their own, backed by supporters in an organization that the angels had not known existed. The ensuing battle was long and hard, both sides believing that their ways of thinking were the correct way, until finally the twisted angels that came to be known as the Demons seceded from their original houses to create opposing ones of their own.

The remaining Angels were able to see the darkness that tainted the demons' hearts, and their urge to purge such things were immense; however, as the demons turned darker and became distinct opposites of the Angels, both sides found that it was impossible to best the other. From then, the two species have been at war, always searching for ways to gain the upper hand, but never succeeding in defeating the other side.

Faith and Love angels are believed to be born from the feelings of their namesakes. Faith angels are born from the belief the other races have in the gods, where Love angels are born from feelings of love. Over time, the two groups have become so numerous they can rightfully call themselves their own houses.
